Super singer Shania Twain has split with her husband producer Robert ‘Mutt’ Lange according to her representative.

“Shania Twain and her husband, music producer Robert ‘Mutt’ Lange, are separating after 14 years of marriage,” spokesman Jason Owen said in a statement. “This is a private matter and there will be no further comment at this time.”

Shania Twain, 42, and Lange, 59, married in 1993, just six months after meeting. They are parents to a 6-year-old son, Eja D’Angelo.

Twain has maintained that she and her hubby had a very compatible relationship though they were very different people.

Reports of trouble in their marriage surfaced in 2000, but the couple stayed together.

Apparently Shania had a difficult time coping with her fame and public persona. She had even taken a self-imposed exile into a Swiss resort to deal with these problems.

But she had been getting back into the public eye with a new perfume and album to be released this year. About this she said, “I’m not naturally a spotlight person … [But] I don’t mind being the center of attention in a controlled, comfortable environment.”

Robert ‘Mutt’ Lange told a magazine that his split from Shania Twain was
“unfortunate.”

It’s just an unfortunate thing that’s happened,” Lange said shortly after the couple’s separation was announced on Thursday. “It’s literally just a growing apart, that’s all.”

Twain was however unprepared for the split. “She’s devastated,” according to a source. “She’s getting through it with a very close-knit group of family and friends.”
