So Kolkata Knight Rider fans, there is still light at the end of the tunnel. But a bleak one. It is still possible for Ganguly Dada and Shahrukh Khan ’s team to reach the semi finals.

Rajasthan Royals are already in the semi finals. Deccans and Bangalore Royal Challengers are out of the tournament anyway. So that leaves 3 slots for the semi finals and fighting for the slots are Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai, Punjab and Delhi. Kolkata has to win the remaining two matches for sure to stay in the hunt. One is against Punjab and the other against Delhi. So if Kolkata wins both, Delhi would have 6 out of 13 and Kolkata would have won 7 out of 14. So even if Delhi beats Mumbai, still Kolkata can beat out Delhi on run rate (chances are less as Delhi has a good net run rate, but Kolkata beating Delhi by a big margin will open up the chances). If Delhi loses and then Chennai superkings loses the remaining 3 matches, then Kolkata is through. Well for that Bangalore and Hyderabad have to win against Chennai Superkings ! But mathematically it is possible. This way Kolkata makes it through to the semi finals along with Rajasthan, Mumbai and Punjab.

If Mumbai loses their remaining 4 matches, then Mumbai is out. But that would mean Delhi would win one and then Delhi and Kolkata would be tied with 7 wins each. So it is possible that Kolkata goes through along with Chennai, Punjab and Rajasthan. Rajastan, Punjab and Mumbai have great net run rates, so being tied at 7 wins along with them may not help Kolkata much.

So in addition to winning their 2 games, Saurav Ganguly and Juhi Chawla have to visit the Kalighat temple a few more times to get them to the next round of the IPL.
