Jannat makes a giant killing on opening weekend
Jannat, the latest movie form Mahesh-Mukesh Bhatt camp has taken a spectacular opening at the box office the last weekend.
Its performance matches that of only two other biggies in recent times, Race and Welcome, near about the achievement of Om Shanti Om, last year.
It is an elusive hit, after a string of flops for the Bhatts. An elated Mahesh Bhatt said,” Yes after long past season we won this time. It feels great.”
“What Yash Raj Films-Akshay Kumar [Tashan] and Amitabh Bachchan-Shah Rukh Khan [Bhoothnath] couldn’t do, Vishesh Films-Emraan Hashmi [Jannat] has done. And we are not merely talking without proof; we have received the numbers.” according to a delighted Mukesh Bhatt.
He pointed out that Jannat is far greater success than the others as they have been made on Rs 40-50 crore budget while Jannat was made on a budget of Rs 10 crore.
Mukesh Bhatt is even more vociferous,” “Whether it is an A, B or C center, Jannat has fetched a bumper response all over,” he said. “At Vishesh Films, we are proud to have made a film which boasts of content, style, message and mainstream ingredients coming together. The success of Jannat has reaffirmed our belief to tell a new story with every film.”
Jannat is based loosely around the issue of match fixing. It stars Emraan Hashmi as a youth with a craving for all the materialistic, good things of life and how he falls in love with a woman with a completely different take on life.
“Jannat” maybe about match fixing, but Bhatt says: “Like I said, it’s reflective of the times we live in. It holds a mirror to the conscience of today’s youth, who believe gratification is the bottom line of existence.
Directed by Kunal Deshmukh, it also stars debutant Sonal Chauhan.
