Pakistan Cricketer Mohammad Asif arrested for possessing drugs
Pakistani authorities have confirmed that Mohammad Asif was arrested in the Dubai Airport for being in possession of drugs. Mohammad Asif was returning to Pakistan from Mumbai via Dubai. He was in India to participate in the IPL tournament.
Members of the Pakistan Cricket Team have acquired the reputation of courting trouble frequently. It may be recalled that Asif had tested positive for the steroid nandrolone in October 2006 and was banned for one year. Shoaib Akhtar was also banned for two years on similar charges. The ban was lifted within two months.
The Pakistan Cricket Board seems to have mastered crises management. In the present case an official of the PCB said, “Yes, we can confirm about Asif’s arrest. He was stopped at Dubai airport on charges of carrying opium and was supposed to be brought before the magistrate on Tuesday”. A detailed statement from PCB is expected shortly.
