Rafael Nadal thrashes Roger Federer to win French Open
In one of the most one sided finals in the French Open at Roland Garros, Rafael Nadal thrashed Roger Federer 6-1, 6-3, 6-0 to win the French Open title. This was their third successive meeting in the final in Paris.
This was the biggest defeat Federer has ever suffered in his 173-match Grand Slam career. The match lasted just one hour and 48 minutes to be the shortest final ever since Bjorn Borg’s victory over Vitas Gerulaitis in 1980.
Borg and Vilas Guillermo were both part of the audience. The great champion Borg looked embarrassed when he presented Federer with the runner-up trophy. Federer was sporting as ever and said “I would have hoped to do better than four games but Rafael is very, very strong,”
