Johnny Depp is Britain’s favorite actor according to a poll by CAA (Cinema Advertising Association).

The Pirates of the Caribbean star took the largest amount of votes across all ages and all genders. A total of 3000 film fans aged 7 and over were quizzed.

The CAA is a trade association of cinema advertising sales contractors operating in the UK.

Depp beat out competition from other homegrown stars such as Daniel Craig, Sir Anthony Hopkins, Sir Sean Connery and Orlando Bloom to take the top spot, .

His USP is his versatility according to trade pundits. Anna Cremin, spokeswoman for CAA, noted that Depp’s eclectic choice of film roles contributed towards his popularity: “[He] has such a wide appeal demonstrated by moving from serious films like Donnie Brasco to blockbusters and comedies.

“Few other actors have managed to be so versatile.”

Depp’s upcoming roles include taking over Heath Ledger’s part in the Terry Gilliam fantasy ‘The Imaginarium Of Doctor Parnassus’ and Michael Mann’s Chicago-set crime thriller ‘Public Enemies’.
