French First Lady and former super model turned pop singer Carla Bruni Sarkozy has been hailed as a modern day Marie Antoinette by a leading political magazine in France.

Saying, “ Enough is enough” about the endless public preening of the newlywed presidential couple, the Magazine- Marianne claims the country is sick and tired of the exotic 40-year-old’s continual showing off for the world’s media.

This follows efforts of Bruni to release her third pop album, the auctioning of her nude pictures by Auction house Christie’s ahead of her state visit to England, and intimate interviews discussing her marriage and left wing political instincts.

All this is even as her husband and president Nicolas Sarkozy is trying to reform France with a right wing agenda. This has made Bruni look foolish and drawn comparisons with Marie Antoinette, ill-fated wife of King Louis XVI who was beheaded during the French Revolution.
Like Marie Antoinette before her, Mrs. Bruni-Sarkozy considers herself to be one of the most beautiful women in Europe.
As Marianne comments,” The president himself seems to be saying at every opportunity, ‘isn’t she beautiful, isn’t she clever, doesn’t she sing well…?’ And the public are getting tired of it.”
Whatever be the tune of their detractors, the Sarkozys are to become Europe’s public face even as France takes up the presidency of the 27-nation European Union.
