The plan involves launching advertisements on the desktops of enrolled Cyber Cafes in the country. It is estimated that 30 percent of the Internet traffic is generated from Cyber Cafes in the country. Clinck is an Active Desktop Application. It provides an interface to popular applications like Messengers, Web Browsers, Search Engines and so on to make browsing more interesting. In addition to all these facilities it displays advertisements on the desktop.

Ideacts is learned to have tied up with more than 600 cafes. The project is said to have received a funding of $ 5 million from a US based company called Sequoia Capital. The company plans to enroll as many as 3500 cyber cafes by the end of the year.

  1. I think there is already a application of sorts which does this.. I think its called Guruji… Its more about search though.. Well i see a major glitch in this too.. Most cyber cafes dont have good bandwidth, unless they are branded ones like i-way, reliance etc… So with existing bandwidths they open sites very slowly may be every site takes around 10-20 secs to load in an average cyber cafe.. And if you put adds on the desktop the websites will take more time and those cyber cafes mayl not be preferred by customers ( There is one cyber cafe in almost every street in b’lore ).. The best way to try this is put text ads ( initially atleast ).. Next problem i think is pricing… How do you pay the cyber cafes.. PPC ( pay - per - click ) wont work will generate lot of fake clicks… Next problem is in India people even who know to use internet are not used to online buying.. I am not trying to project my negativity here.. Just trying to findout what way can they make it a work?? A small advice.. When you do advertising use Google’s policy it works always ” DO NO EVIL ” !!

  2. Nice idea but if they can counter with the associated misuse .
