Gangapur Dam filling up at slow pace
Gangapur Dam is the main source of potable water to Nahsik. Normally the dam fills up to the extent of 50 to 60 percent by this time of the year. However the scanty rainfall in this season has started showing up. The water levels of the dam are barely adequate to provide water to the city.
Recently rains have gradually picked up. There has been relatively better rainfall in the catchment areas of the Gangapur Dam. This is leading to a gradual rise in the water level. However it still remains the lowest if data for last five years is analysed.
The scanty rainfall is a serious issue for the administration. While there is adequate water in the dam to last for a few months, if the rainfall does not pick up it might become a serious problem for the administration.
