UPA government wins trust vote
Amidst high political drama and uncertainty the UPA government won the vote against the No Confidence Motion against it. The entire day in the parliament was marked by unruly scenes. There were allegations of some MPs having been bribed to abstain from the vote.
MPs of the BJP flashed currency notes in the Parliament. “Over the last three or four days, there has been pressure on our MPs to take money to either abstain or vote for the government, and this has been done by the Congress and their supporters,” Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Rajnath Singh told reporters.
However the biggest drama occurred when the voting took place by push buttons. Only 487 valid votes were counted. 253 votes for, 232 against and 2 abstentions were recorded. Initially the members of the parliament thought that this was the final vote and members congratulated the PM on the victory. Later it was realized that there was some error in the electronic voting.
