Sarkar Raj heads for Oscar library
Ram Gopal Verma’s Sarkar Raj has got the honor of finding a place inside the Oscar library.
It joins an elite list of Hindi movies including Devdas, Kal Ho Na Ho, Lagaan, Lage Raho Munnabhai and Namastey London in the shelves.
The script will be permanently housed in the library and will be available to students and other filmmakers for reference and study. The library has a huge collection of not only scripts but also books, photographs, periodicals and manuscripts as well as musical scores and recordings plus costume sketches, artifacts and oral histories.
Ram Gopal Verma confirmed the news saying “Yes, the Academy got in touch with me and Sarkar Raj is going to the library. I am happy to receive this honour.” The film, which did average business at the box office, starred the three Bachchans - Amitabh, Abhishek and Aishwarya together for the first time.
The Oscar library has a collection of more than 32000 books, 1800 periodical titles, 60000 screenplays, over eight million photographs, over 300 manuscripts and other special collections relating to prominent industry individuals, studios and organizations.
It is indeed a rare honour for Ram Gopal Verma.
