Researches have showed that SPF,the Sun Protection Factor, only indicates protection against UVB rays.It has been pointed out that SPF number doesn’t imply any protection against the UVA rays. The issue of protection against UVA rays is conveniently ignored by the sunscreen manufacturing companies and this prompted the U.S. Food and Drug Administration or the FDA to issue a new proposed rule to stop misleading claims by sunscreen manufacturers in 2007.

One official is reported to have said that “For more than 30 years, consumers have been able to identify the level of UVB protection provided by sunscreens using only sunburn protection factor or SPF values. Under this proposal, consumers will also now know the level of UVA protection in sunscreens, which will help them make informed decisions about protecting themselves and their children against the harmful effects of the Sun.” But,the sunscreen manufacturing companies still did not implement this.

Besides, though We find sunscreen lotions in supermarket aisles with SPF numbers ranging from 2 to 60,the experts recommend at least an SPF of 15 in a sunny weather.
