Regular intake of fish keeps eyes and heart healthy
Some European researchers under the coordination of London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine have found out that consumption of oily fish like salmon, tuna or mackerel regularly once a week may reduce potential blindness and poor vision. It actually works by reducing age-related macular degeneration (AMD) which is responsible for eyesight problems.
The problem of AMD is categorised as wet and dry amongst which Wet macular degeneration leads to blindness in older people.Fish oil contains omega 3 fatty acids which prevents wet macular dengeneration.
The lead researcher Astrid Fletcher of London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine was quoted to have said that “Two 3oz servings a week of oily fish, such as salmon, tuna or mackerel, provides about 500 mg of docosahexaenoicacid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) per day.” It can reportedly reduce the risk of wet AMD by 50 percent.
Besides, very low rates of coronary heart disease among Japanese living in Japan has been linked to the consumption of fish.It was pointed out in a reserch conducted by some scientists that very high levels of omega-3 fatty acids have strong properties that may help to prevent the build up of cholesterol in the arteries.
