The Kerala State AIDS Control Society (KSACS) has become a pioneer in integrating AIDS victims in the mainstream as KSACS will be appointing a GIPA (Greater Involvement of People Living with HIV/AIDS) coordinator and the post is exclusively for people living with HIV/AIDS (PLHA).

KSACS project director and special secretary, health, Usha Titus was quoted to have said,”We have issued advertisements inviting applications to the post of coordinator, People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLHA), only from candidates who are HIV positive.”

The eligible graduate candidates who have at least three years of experience working with HIV related matters were asked to submit their application latest by 16th of August,2008.The co-ordinator supposedly would be a member of the committee of the KSACS which signifies that he will have a say in the decision making process.The job involves establishing a network of HIV positive people in all the 14 districts of the state with an estimated HIV positive population of twenty five thousand.This project for which the post has been sanctioned is fully funded by the National AIDS Control Society and the post has been sanctioned for every state.

The organisation hopes that this step will improve coordination and communication with high risk groups like male and female sex workers.In India the disease is looked upon as a taboo and as a result most of the victims prefer not to go for the treatment in order to hide it.This step of reserving the post hopefully will facilitate the integration of the isolated victims in the mainstream which in turn will help the treatment as well as the elimination of the disease.
