The incident of the gang-rape of a 22-year-old woman working for the IBM call centre,Pune shocked the whole country. Reportedly,the girl was gang-raped by the company car driver and his friends on the night of August 7,2008.

According to the police,a friend of the raped girl took her to a private hospital and filed a police complaint thereafter. The girl was unconscious and hence the police couldn’t record her statement.According to the FIR filed by her friend,the girl started for office upon receiving a call that she needed to go to office for some work on the night of August 7th,2008.The cab which she called for the commute took her to a secluded place in Hadapsar on the Pune-Solapur Road where she was allegedly sexually assaulted by a group of ten men.

However,the police found some discrepancies upon investigation.According to the call centre officials, the girl had left workplace for the day in the afternoon after her duty hours and had not been summoned back in the night.Besides,the roommates of the girl apparently told the police that at the time of the alleged crime she was there in the hostel.

Reportedly,the police raised a question as to why she would take a cab to go to office as she lived in a building next to the call centre and she always walked down the distance. A complaint has been registered against around ten unknown persons on the basis of the FIR.But,the police is awaiting the alleged victim’s statement to dispel the doubts prevailing in this matter.
