Strong demand for sugarcane
The delay in monsoon is having its inevitable cascading effects on the economic system of the district. Normally the sowing of the sugarcane saplings is carried out during the month of June. However it was delayed this year because of the poor monsoon thus far.
The Nashik belt is famous for its sugar factories. The surrounding districts of Pune and even Sangli and Kolhapur are very active sugar producers. The sugar industry is anticipating a sharp decrease in supply of sugarcane to the sugar factories in the later months during the current year.
In anticipation of the crises many operators are offering a lucrative rate of Rs 1500 to the farmers of Nashik district. Most of these operators are acting on behalf of the sugar mills
