With the entry of Vijender Kumar in the semi finals of 75 kg middleweight Boxing event, India is assured of another bronze medal. Hopes of another silver or even gold remain still alive.

In a quarterfinal match Vijender Kumar beat Carlos Gongora of Ecaudor on points. In a well fought contest Vijender Kumar eventually won 9-4.

Thus today is an historic day for India. Never before has India won more than two medals. Unfortunately the hopes of another medal in boxing died down after Jitender, lost to Russian rival Georgy Balakshin 15 – 11 in a very keenly contested bout.
