Cheryl McCormick and Justin Carre of Brock University Ontario,Canada analysed the aggression levels of 90 sportsmen like male varsity and professional hockey players. In this study, the width to height facial ratio was associated with the number of penalty minutes per game which were meted out to players for violent acts and aggression including slashing, elbowing, fighting and the like.Cheryl McCormick opined “The findings suggest that people can make accurate inferences about others’ personality traits and behavioural dispositions based on certain signals conveyed by the face.”

According to the study, a high level of testosterone is accountable for the higher width to height facial ratio in male which is resultant upon a short temper and aggressive behaviour. The study has been published in Proceedings of the Royal Society B.It may be pointed out that this finding doesn’t hold true in case of women.
