Nashik. This incident, which could make a documentary for National Geographic Channel, in Nashik district certainly proves that the Leopard issue requires immediate attention of the forest authorities.

Villagers of Adwadi village woke up to threatening calls of a leopard on Sunday morning. The animal started calling at 4 AM and continued till day light broke. Very soon it was learnt that a leopard had fallen in a narrow well. There was a fight between two leopards at night in which one of them fell in the well.

It took a few more hours to call the forest officials and the police. A ladder was constructed and lowered in the well. With great difficult the forest officials pulled up the leopard. The animal waited till such time it reached the ground level. As soon at it reached the parapet of the well it pounced on one of the forest officials. One person is reported to be seriously injured in the scuffle with the animal. Thereafter it scooted away in the jungles.

It can be seen that leopard incidents have become a weekly occurrence. The forest officials need to take immediate action by approaching the International Experts in the field. They need to be equipped with modern rescue equipment. If immediate action is not taken the situation is very dangerous for both, man and beast.
