Ram Gopal Verma who has experimented with a couple of movies of the horror film genre returns to cinemas with what he calls his scariest pic titled, Phoonk.

Phoonk is about black magic, about how atheism and theism collide in its background and manages to scare you out of your wits.

The movie features a whole new set of star cast including Kannada film star Sudeep, debutant Amruta Khanvilkar, Ahsaas Channa, Kenny Desai and Ashwini Kalsekar.

Speaking to the media on her role in the film, debutant Bollywood actress Amruta Khanvilkar said, “My role in the film is about a lady who truly believes in God. Somewhere down the line she starts believing in black magic. She begins to think that just as powerful as God is, so is the evil black magic. But slowly as the film progresses she thinks that practical things like doctors and medicine also exist. So my character turns from a complete believer in God towards an atheist,” said Amruta.

Sudeep, lead actor of this film said that as far casting him in this movie is concerned the all the credit goes to Verma. “As far as conviction of casting me, all the credit goes to him (Ram Gopal Verma). I had no idea what he had in his mind. Due to lot of intensity in the character he cast me and probably wanted me to make the character look real and not very star cast type. He has gone on with casting because I guess because he wanted people to just get into the flow of the subject and not the casting,” said Sudeep. Child artist Ahsaas Channa also enjoyed herself , putting up a great performance in the movie.

Director Ram Gopal Verma says, “Phoonk is my attempt to use the different aspects of human psychology to accentuate fear. I have gone to the extent of attempting to make people unsafe even with idols of Gods around. To make the viewer fear and question everything and everyone around and what he or she depends on and what he or she believes in, is the primary objective of my film.

With the history of Bhoot, Darna Mana Hai, Darna Zaroori Hain behind him, it will be interesting to watch how Ram Gopal Verma’s latest will fare at the box office!
