Apple’s iphone doesn’t score well with the Indian public
Apple’s new iphone saw a sluggish sale after its launch in India. Reportedly,it didn’t match up to the kind of craze witnessed in other European and Asian countries when the iPhone was launched there last month.
An exorbitantly high 31,000 Rs price is held accountable for this. The cost is around four times higher than the US price. Vodafone and Bharti airtell, the two carriers considered it a one time revenue opportunity and did not subsidize the phone as the carriers did in US.
Airtel reportedly stated that their target buyers are ‘high-end achiever’ and ‘youth segment.’ According to a report, 150,000 iPhones, bought in other countries, are already being used in India. The phones can reportedly be unlocked with software easily available in the grey market.
