Axe deo ad ordered to be removed
The Information and Broadcasting Ministry is doing its job of moral policing to the hilt. In its latest dictate it has asked for an immediate discontinuation and subsequent withdrawal of the ‘Axe Dark Temptation Deodorant’ advertisement. The advertisement has been termed as vulgar and repulsive.
The decision was taken on Friday. The Indian Broadcasting Foundation (IBF) has been asked by the ministry to withdraw the advertisement by 25 August. The IBF president Mr Jawahar Goel said, “The I&B ministry has sent us a letter advising to discontinue the advertisement. We have forwarded the letter to all IBF members. Though we may not agree with government, we have done our work of passing the information to the rest of the broadcasters.”
It is reported that the Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) had received some complaints in the last few days. The I & B ministry has requested ASCI to provide details of complaints received and action taken by its Consumer Complaints Council (CCC) in this regard.
The advertiser, Hindustan Unilever, has been asked to refrain from airing the advertisement.

Vulgar??I thought the ad was great, atleast the axe ads convey their messages in an over the top, funny style without taking itself too seriously.I’d much rather have those ads rather than ads of “set wet” where women lose all sense of reality by the sheer fragrance of the deo.
Come on.
You can’t be serious !!
Vulgar = Bollywood movies & music videos
hi,
its really funny about the govt. of India (Ministry of information & Broadcasting) giving permission to films with vulgar scene & useless stuff such as presenting the women as least matter of object used for commercial profits & what not…….
Suggest to take care of the bollywood films toooooo.
the ad is wonderful… there is nothing vulgar in it… infact its craetivity at tis best… get a life whosoeer think its vulgar.
Vulgar? the ad is great ……… IBF organization is acting like fool. The ad is totally subjective and depends on everybody perception.
These guys are not censoring bull shit shown in TV serials and item songs which has repetition after every 40 mints an average. and making an issue of this ad.
Wake up guys ……….. conclusion: the ad is totally fantastic
I completely agree with Shantanu.. There are many other ads on air which are far more vulgar than this sweet ad. IBFneeds to broaden their mindset and be able to see beyond the obvious.
I still see that ad on TV. If they have edited and removed that biting the chocolate ass scene, the ad wouldn’t have been classified vulgar.
What about the current crop of Bollywood song sequences with scantily clad women gyrating their hips at supersonic speeds? I guess Bollywood is exempt from vulgarity. The best we can hope is that the geniuses at the I & B ministry will be consistent in their stupidity.
Yeah, this is a good decision to dc the AXE add. I think there are also some adds that need to be discontinued because these all consist double meaning and are vulgar including set wet and amul macho adds.
What a crap !!!!
Does they have sense of what is vulgar & what is funny ?
I don’t see any wrong with this chocalate ad.
wats vulgar in that add……..??
it is very funny ..even i enjoyed that add along with my family members……
the opinion of indian govt exposes theier stupidity…….
dont bury the creativity…………
Good Job. This ad should be banned. The lady biting the ass (sorry) is not only vulgar but also annoying. Right step taken.
I agree with Shantanu’s comments on “Set Wet”. Pl check Set Wet ads too.
BOLLYWOOD = Vulgar
