Phoonk contest runs into controversy
Ram Gopal Varma has arrived with a really scary pic, Phoonk but his much-publicized Phoonk contest ran into trouble with contestants calling it a hoax.
Ram Gopal Varma had announced a contest along with the release of Phoonk. It was a call to any five people who could watch Phoonk completely alone in a theatre. The Five would be chosen by a lot system. And the winners would get five lakh rupees.
Following Ram Gopal Varma’s challenge, there was a ‘Phoonk’ contest that was conducted by the film’s promotion team for short-listing participants to eventually confront the director’s claim. The final five short listed contestants from Delhi, Bhopal, Kolkata, Bangalore and Mumbai have now accused Ram Gopal Varma of misleading them, as they were asked to shed money from their own pockets book the whole theatre, in order to sit alone in the theatre, which was, supposedly, the main clause of the challenge.
The disappointed fans have now attacked Ram Gopal Varma for not disclosing the contest details previously, and have said that the contest was nothing but a cheap publicity gimmick by the director, which once again highlights his need and want for controversies.
