iphone sees a sluggish sale
Apple’s iphone didn’t score with the Indian public as reported previously. Bharti Airtel and Vodafone sale of the iphone is estimated to be around 1,500 in the first week after it was launched.
The exorbitant price caused its undoing. Most of the Indian consumers deem it way beyond their budget. The 8GB phone costs Rs 31,000 whereas the 16 GB phone costs Rs 36,000 whereas it costs between $199 which is around Rs 8,000 and $299 which is around Rs 12,000 globally because the operators subsidised the price substantially.
Although there is no official declaration from Airtel and Vodafone as to the number of iphones sold, the sales number from stores indicate that each store could sell only 50 to 60 phones. Besides, the big mobile companies are like Nokia, LG, Samsung, HTC etc are ready to replace the much hyped iphone with their state of the art mobile phones at a much cheaper price.
