The film, which was scheduled for release on Diwali, will now hit the theatres on Christmas, December 25.
“We were planning to release the film on Diwali, but it did not happen because of my injury, so we decided to at least unveil its first look on this day,” Aamir told reporters. He also wished everyone a happy Diwali.
Aamir suffered a hamstring injury while filming a scene for the film in April. The scene required him to pick up and throw a heavy man against a wall.
“‘Ghajini‘ is important for me as it is an out and out commercial movie which I am doing after a long time”, said Aamir Khan.
On the absence of director A.R. Murugadoss on the occasion, Aamir said: “The post-production work for the film is going on full swing and our director is extremely busy with it.”
Ghajini is the Hindi adaptation of the Tamil film Ghajini directed by AR Murugadoss. The film is inspired by the critically acclaimed film ‘Memento’ by Christopher Nolan, with the common theme of the protagonist suffering from anterograde amnesia or short term memory loss while seeking revenge for his wife’s murder.
Ghajini will feature Aamir Khan, Asin Thottumkal and Jiah Khan in lead roles. AR Rahman will be scoring the music for the film whilst Ravi K Chandran and Anthony handle cinematography and editing of the film respectively.
According to reports, the Indian Film Company has bagged the domestic distribution rights for Ghajini of an estimated Rs 53 crore, while its home video rights, overseas rights and satellite rights have been sold for another Rs 40 crore which brings to the grand total to Rs 93 crore.
