Actress Soha Ali Khan is in the dock with the police for having been issued a gun when she was underage.


It is alleged that the same weapon was used by her father, former cricket captain and Nawab of Pataudi in an episode of shooting an endangered Black Buck near Gurgaon for which he is facing a police case already.

Soha Ali Khan was issued the gun license in November 1996, when she was only 18 years and one month old, whereas the minimum age limit for getting a gun license is 21 years, Gurgaon Deputy Commissioner Rakesh Gupta said on Tuesday

He also said the file containing documents related to the license was missing and added that an FIR would be lodged against unnamed persons.

The officer said Pataudi took permission for carrying the .22 bore rifle No. 91501 “as retainer” on January 7, 2000, but police seized the weapon after the shooting incident.

Gurgaon sub-divisional magistrate J.S. Sangwan, who was unaware of the case against Pataudi regarding the same weapon, renewed the license in October 2005. As the weapon had been used illegally, its license shouldn’t have been renewed, according to Rakesh Gupta.

If it were established that Pataudi had used the same weapon in killing the black buck, action would be taken against him and Soha Ali Khan for violating the arms act and misleading the Gurgaon administration.

Soha is being given two weeks to reply to the show cause notice.
