Terrorist target Mumbai in the worst attack thus far
Terror once again struck Mumbai on 26 November 2008. 26 terrorists landed at the Gateway of India through rubber boats. These heavily armed terrorists are learnt to have captured Police and Government Vehicles and moved to various targets. The targets included Taj Mahal Hotel, Trident Hotel, Mumbai CST railway station, Metro movie hall, Cama Hospital and other prominent places in the city.
Mumbai police reacted rapidly and have possibly succeeded in foiling the larger plot of the terrorists. Senior officials of the Anti Terrorist Squad have laid down their lives. They include Hemant Karkare, Vijay Salaskar and Ashok Kampte. In the worst ever attack in India more than 100 people are feared to be dead. 10 security personnel have laid down their lives. Army commandos have been flown in and have taken charge of the operations.
An organization called Deccan Mujahadeen has taken responsibility for the attack. It is also believed that a number of foreign nationals have been taken hostage. There are also shades of an international conspiracy in the plot. When reports last came in encounters were raging with the terrorists at the Taj Hotel and the Trident Hotel.
