The Pune Nashik train has started a controversy even before it is flagged off. There is a demand that the rakes being used for Manmad Kurla Express should not be used for the new train. The BJP City President Mr Nitin Pande has threatened a strong agitation if the old rakes are provided. A memorandum has also been issued by the BJP President and the Pravasi Sanstha President Mr Naim Sheikh regarding this.

The memorandum states that there was a discussion on this subject the last year. The Pune Nashik train was to have started in the last year itself but it could not commence as there was an opposition to the use of the rakes of Godavari Express plying from Manmad to Kurla. Now after making the announcement of re starting the train the railways are silent about the use of rakes. If they use the same rakes it will be a breach of trust. Therefore there will be a very strong agitation if the rakes are not changed.

An official comment from the railways is expected.
