Nvidia responsible for Windows Vista crashes
It has now been reported by Microsoft that Nvidia PC Graphics Cards have been chiefly responsible for the crashing of the Microsoft’s Windows Vista operating system.
In documents released by Microsoft the percentage of such crashes has been estimated to the tune of 29% of overall crashes reported.
Ars Technica has said that 479,000 crashes were caused by the drivers of Nvidia. When compared to the total crashes logged by Microsoft (1,663,748) it was found to be the highest factor. Microsoft’s own drivers also lead to a sizable 18 percent of crashes. Intel was responsible for 8.8 % of crashes.
This information was made public by Microsoft while defending a law suit. Nvidia also has the obnoxious reputation of being a discrete hardware manufacturer. Considering this it is no wonder that they were chiefly responsible for the cashing of the operating system on a number of occasions.

From the date Vista was released NVIDIA worked on updating drivers approximately every two weeks until such time as the most stable driver version was reached. NVIDIA also started a reporting website for NVIDIA driver bugs for Vista which by the way is still operational. It is also hard to say, based on the report, how many of the same customers kept getting the same error over and over, which might have skewed the final results.
