Dev Anand’s Guide to be screened at Cannes
Veteran actor Dev Anand is on cloud nine after being invited to the Cannes festival in which his legendary movie, Guide will be screened in its “ Classics section”.
The Cannes festival is one of the most prestigious film festivals in the world. Its Classics Sidebar section was inaugurated in 2004 and is a section that centers on screening a selection of new or restored prints of classic films, tributes to foreign cinema, documentaries on filmmaking, and occasionally rare or rediscovered footage of from days gone by, according to the festival catalogue.
“I have never attended any Cannes fest earlier. So, I am very happy to receive an invitation to attend it. I am indeed more pleased because my Guide is being shown in the ‘Classics’ section, which I understand is a sideshow of the main festival,” Dev Anand told IANS
In Guide, Dev Anand plays the role of a tour guide who gets entangled in the affairs of a married woman caught in marital discord that drives him to the edge of his life. Based on a novel by R.K. Narayan of the same name, it also stars Waheeda Rehman in a riveting performance. Dev Anand has approached Hyderbad’s Goldstone Technologies Ltd to recolorise and restore the prints of the classic before it is screened at Cannes.
“ I am excited because I will have a chance to interact with film luminaries of the world there,” said the actor. The festival starts at Cannes in France in May.
