Priyanka meets father’s murderer
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra told recently that she has forgiven
her father’s killer. She is said to have been met Rajiv Gandhi’s killer last month. As per her close sources it was an attempt on her part to come to terms with the loss of her father. This was a necessity for her as he was the person whom she loved the most.
Anger, hatred and violence are not her ways of dealing with the problem and so she has decided to forgive Nalini Sriharan who is serving a life term.
Nalini is the sole survivor of the five-member assassination squad.
Priyanka said the entire initiative was a must for her to come in terms with the violence and loss that she had experienced post her father’s death. “It was entirely my own initiative and there is no political role play behind it,” she added. Priyanka met Nalini at a women’s prison in Nellore on March 19 where she is serving the life term.
Meanwhile Congress MP Rahul Gandhi supported his sister Priyanka Vadra’s decision to meet a conspirator in their father’s assassination. “Our family is not keen to carry forward the hatred,” he said.
“It was purely a personal visit on my own initiative which must be respected. I do not believe in anger or violence and I refuse to let it overpower me. Meeting Nalini was my way of coming to terms with my father’s death,” she said later in a press statement.
Nalini was one of the main accused who was involved in Rajiv Gandhi’s assassination at Sriperumbudur near Chennai on May 21,1991. Nalini, who had accompanied the Sri Lankan woman suicide bomber who blew up Rajiv Gandhi with hidden explosives at Sriperumbudur had, later, given birth to a girl in prison.
