The hullabaloo over the Olympic Torch relay is expected to reach the heights of controversy as the torch has reached Thailand amidst tight security. After completing its run in India and creating massive protests from the Tibetan community, the Olympic torch is expected to unleash a similar situation in Bangkok.

While the torch relay in Delhi was relatively peaceful with stringent security guarding the route, even it could not stop the Tibetans from demonstrating their protests along the way. The Tibetans also brought out a rally to register their protest on the same day. The capital witnessed unprecedented levels of security for the event during the day of the run. However, the city traffic was thrown out of gear and the residents of Delhi had to bear the brunt.

The worldwide controversy that the Chinese crackdown on Tibet started has effectively put the Chinese government on tenterhooks. It has suspicions over India’s involvement in the US conspiracy against China. The relay run in Delhi is being seen as a strategic step of the Indian government to extend the feeling of Diplomacy to the Government of China.
