New Avian flu outbreak in east India
The shadow of avian flu looms large over the states of eastern India. The disease which has put the future of poultry businessmen in the eastern states at stake has raised its ugly head in the neighboring state of Tripura. The reports of Poultry infection was received from a village near Agartala, the capital of the state. The confirmation of a fresh outbreak of bird flue in Tripura was issued by the Centre in Monday.
The new instance of flu outbreak follows the earlier incident which was tackled by the state’s 28 RRTs. The earlier epidemic killed more than 3000 birds. The animal resource commissioner of Tripura, U Venkateswarulu has said that the recent place of outbreak is barely 40 km from the earlier site, Dhalai. Since the area is close to the Bangladesh border, the possibility of illegal poultry import can not be ruled out.
He also said that the culling operations are slated to commence from Thursday. At least 15 teams will be deployed by the state government for the purpose.
