After Vodafone, It’s Now Singapore Telecom Planning To Bring Apple’s iPhone In India
Seeing availability of vast consumer base here, leading mobile phone service providers are now eying Indian market with sophisticated communication gadgets. Few days ago, Vodafone had declared their intention of gifting Apple\’s iPhones to their Indian consumers; its now the turn of SingTel. The Singapore Telecommunications Ltd has recently finalized an agreement with the Apple Inc. to bring their iPhones in India before ending of this year along with unveiling the same for the Australian and Philippines’ and Singaporean customers.
The leading telephone service provider of south east Asia, SingTel, has entered into the potentially profitable agreement with the Apple in order to enhance their presence in the Asian telecommunication sector. With increasing demand for the iPhone in the local market, the move has caused thousands of fashion savvy high-end consumers to cheer up! At present, Apple\’s iPhones are available in India in flee market or can be collected en-route foreign trip.
SingTel, which has about 30.5% stake in India’s Bharti Airtel Ltd, has confirmed it’s intention of bringing the exotic iPhone for the Indian consumers through its subsidiary Bharti Airtel. Though, the details of exact date of launch, expected price tags, service policy, etc. have yet not made public. After it’s launch in 2007, Apple has already sold more than 5.7 million iPhones in few select countries.
SingTel’s entry in to the Indian market with the iPhone will once again open a stiff competition amongst the existing private telephone operators here. Thanks to the govt. policy on liberalizing telecom sector, mobile phone service in India is now almost affordable for majority of it’s citizens!
