Michael Moore is all set to shoot a second documentary, a sequel to his path braking documentary, Fahrenheit 9/11- which was a caustic indictment of the Bush administration in the post September 11 terrorist attack on U.S.A.
The next documentary by Michael Moore, untitled but described as “a searing and provocative follow-up to his groundbreaking 2004 documentary ‘Fahrenheit 9/11,’ ” will be financed by Paramount Vantage and Overture Films, the two companies announced on Tuesday.
They will shop the project to international buyers when the Cannes Film Festival and market get under way today. Overture will distribute the film domestically, while Vantage will handle international market.
Fahrenheit 9/11,” a scathing indictment of George W. Bush’s war on terrorism and a hit at the worldwide box office, won the coveted Palme d’Or at Cannes in 2004.It was the fist documentary ever to win the coveted award.
His later works, “Bowling for Columbine” also played at Cannes, and “Sicko” premiered at the fest last year.
The director, who has long inspired a love or hate reaction among viewers, has notably parted ways with long-time financier and supporter Harvey Weinstein, instead looking to Overture Films and Paramount Vantage to co-produce and co-finance the sequel.
Earlier, in 2004 , Miramax film studio founders Harvey and Bob Weinstein had personally acquired rights to Fahrenheit 9/11, originally funded by Miramax, after parent company Disney refused to allow its release. The Weinsteins then secured worldwide distribution of the film which went on to gross around US$200m worldwide.
Sequel will pick up where “Fahrenheit 9/11″ left off. In the time since, Bush’s popularity has plummeted, while the Iraq war continues and the economy falters
