Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts occupy top spot
Hollywood stars Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts have come out triumphant in a poll to name America’s most favorite male and female Oscar Best actors ever.
Hanks, who has won the Best Actor Oscar twice, for 1993’s “Philadelphia” and “Forrest Gump” in 1994 beat “Gladiator” actor Russell Crowe and late star Paul Newman “The Color of Money” in a joint poll conducted by US magazine Parade and Entertainment Tonight
Roberts, who won an Oscar for her turn as activist Erin Brockovich in the film of the same name, was favorite Best Actress winner, beating Reese Witherspoon for “Walk the Line” and Jodie Foster in “The Accused.
Angelina Jolie was recognized as the most popular actress to win in the Best Supporting Actress category for her 1999 hit “Girl Interrupted” gaining over Renee Zellweger who won her Oscar for the period drama “Cold Mountain” and Whoopi Goldberg who took home the trophy for her role in the supernatural romance “Ghost”.
Morgan Freeman was named the most popular actor to win the “Best Supporting Actor” beating British actor Sean Connery and George Clooney to claim the spot.
“Titanic” remains public’s favourite Best Film winner, ahead of “The Godfather” and “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King”.
