Samsung launches LED TVs
Samsung has taken the lead in launching LED TVs that are reportedly environment friendly also. These TV sets use light-emitting diodes where as LCD TVs use fluorescent lamps as a backlight. The result is a sharper and brighter image. It also results in TV sets that are less than two inches in thickness. The basic advantage of LEDs over fluorescent or incandescent lights is that they are small and produce little heat.
The LED TVs use much lesser power and do not require mercury during manufacture. Therefore these are also environment friendly. Samsung has introduced three series of LED edge-lit TVs and is the only manufacturer in the market.
Samsung India on Wednesday announced the pricing of these high-definition televisions which is expected to be between Rs. 1.25 lakh and Rs. 3.50 lakh. President and CEO, South West Asia Headquarters, Jung Soo Shin while addressing a press conference said that Samsung India was the first company to manufacture LED TVs. Samsung India Deputy Managing Director R. Zutshi said “We are expecting our LED TV volumes to be 10 per cent of our flat panel TV volumes this year,”.
