Ram Gopal Varma’s Rann is in deep waters for featuring a distorted version of the Indian National anthem.

The Censor board which viewed a special screening itself declared that that it was dead against the guideline 219 of Section 5 (b)2 of Cinematograph Act as well as Prevention of insult to National Honour Act 1971.

The censor board officials have denied its permission to producers for airing this version based on National Anthem.
Sharmila Tagore, Chairperson of CBFC said that it was veritably a distorted version of National Anthem with their lyrical lines (Jana Gana Mana Rann hai, is Rann mein Zakhmi Hua hai Bharat ka Bhagya vidhata). Nevertheless, producers of the film have come up with their version that CBFC hadn’t officially informed about their decision and they would act according to it.
Ram Gopal Varma had earlier mentioned that it wasn’t a distorted version of Jana Gana Mana while unveiling the first look. Rann has a strong motif based on the present scenario in the contemporary world of media. Featuring Amitabh Bachchan and Ritesh Deshmukh in lead roles, it also features biggies like Paresh Rawal, Rajat Kapoor, Manisha Koirala, Purab Kohli as well as Gul Panag in prominent characterizations.
Meanwhile, Activists of the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) burnt effigies of director Ram Gopal Varma and Amitabh Bachchan for “dishonouring” the National Anthem in their movie Rann.

Hundreds of LJP members gathered around Albert Ekka roundabout Saturday morning and burnt effigies of Varma and Amitabh. They also shouted slogans against them.

“We cannot tolerate twisting of the national song. It is dishonor of the national song and country. We are planning to file a Public Interest Litigation in the High Court seeking banning of the movie,” said Jitendra Singh, an LJP leader who participated in the protest.

“We will not allow screening of the movie in Bihar and Jharkhand if the national song which has been twisted is not removed from the movie,” he added.
