Can your organization skip Windows Vista

Windows 7 has not yet appeared on the selves of stores, yet the comparisons with Vista are inevitable. Windows 7 is believed to be better than Vista in almost every aspect. However the pricing may be much steeper when compared to Vista.

Dell marketing executive reportedly said to Brooke Crothers on CNET, “If there’s one thing that may influence adoption, make things slower or cause customers to pause, it’s that generally the ASPs (average selling price) of the operating systems are higher than they were for Vista and XP,”

Therefore all small businesses, schools etc may find it expensive to migrate to Windows 7. Consumers used to the price tags of Windows XP and Vista may find the change difficult to handle especially during the recession. What needs to be watched is the Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard. Another issue that seems to have been handled well by Microsoft is the driver readiness.

So a suggestion being made commonly is those using Windows Vista should plan to change over only in late 2010 or 2011. Microsoft will be supporting Windows XP till April 2014.
