Now 3G services in Mumbai

MTNL has announced the launch of its 3G services in Mumbai. The service is initially also being offered as a trial pack so that the users can try it out before they select it.

It is learnt that Alcatel-Lucent has provided some of the hardware to implement the solution. They have supplied more than 50 percent of MTNL’s TDM switches and more than 2 million GSM lines to MTNL. The collaboration is part of a multi-year agreement with MTNL under which the company is providing an end-to-end GSM/EDGE solution and a range of project management, consulting and design, installation and deployment, network operations, maintenance and integration and testing solutions.

Vivek Mohan, managing director of Alcatel-Lucent’s activities in India said “This win demonstrates the value of the long-term customer relationship and commitment of Alcatel-Lucent in India. Our undisputed technology leadership, innovation, and global knowledge and experience in telecommunications allow us to deliver a solution that positions our customers well to meet the challenge of increasing competition both today and tomorrow.”

The 3G package by MTNL comes up with a Jadoo trial pack for Rs 99 for those subscribers who want to try it initially. It is valid for 15 days and offers 50 MB data transfer with Rs 3 per MB for additional downloads. Postpaid customers have plans of Rs 300 with STD video calls being charged at 3.75 per minute and ISD video calls at Rs 30 per minute. Local video calls will be charged at Rs 1.80 per minute. Voice and SMS will be charged as per regular plans of the subscriber.

Prepaid packages on offer include plans of Rs 250 (200MB), Rs 450 (500MB), Rs 750 (1GB) Rs 2500 (Unlimited).
