Google releases myTouch
The competition in the smartphones has just about begun. Close on the heels of Palm Pre and the iPhone 3G S, T-Mobile’s
will be releasing the next Google Android device known as myTouch. The phone will be released on Monday.
The first Google Android phone, the G1 was launched during the last fall. There are reports of over one million units of the handset being sold. The myTouch has been manufactured by the HTC and has more or less the same design as HTC Magic. It was showcased in the GSMA Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in February this year.
The myTouch has a 512 MB internal memory and supports a microSD for external storage. The phone will have a single wireless operator and the users need to sign a two year contract. Therefore the subsidized price works out to $199. On being asked as to why myTouch should stand out from its rivals Andrew Sherrard, vice president at T-Mobile said “The answer is in personalization. No two myTouch devices will be alike. They will be as unique as the users that own them.”
The myTouch can be fully customized with various Android applications. Sherpa is an app by Geodelic that helps users personalize restaurants, movie theaters, and other businesses of their choices. Sherpa does this by preferences and search history of the users.
MyTouch will also include Google features such as Picasa, video loading from YouTube and other web proprieties of Google. Finally Sherrard said “What we have found is that once consumers know how to customize a device and they add everything they want on it, they respond very well to having a phone that is specially designed for them,”.
