Researchers have been doing in depth analysis of the iPhone 3G S since its launch.

One of the major dampeners has been its short battery life. It was being speculated that the software is the main reason for this. Now it has been established that the OS 3.0 is the main battery guzzler.

The Examiner has reported that the complaints from users have started from day one with reports of batteries not holding charge for one full day. Daniel Nations the “iPhone Examiner” said “This speculation is effectively confirmed when looking at the battery for the new iPhone 3G S, which is virtually identical to the iPhone 3G’s battery,”

One possible source of the battery drain is the push notifications. In order to continuously receive messages from the server the iPhone has to maintain an open connection. Probably this is the source that is hogging the battery resource out of proportion.

Hopefully this issue will be fixed with the introduction of iPhone 3.1 OS. It is in beta stage presently and Apple needs to address this issue.
