It has been widely reported earlier that Apple may be considering discontinuing of sync support with a future version of iTunes. And sure enough the rumors have proved to be true yet again. With the release of iTunes 8.2.1 Palm Pre-iTunes synchronization has come to an end.

Users all over have reported inability to sync their Palm Pre with the new version of the iTunes. The Plam Pre is only recognized as a mass storage device and cannot be used for uploading songs through iTunes. In its release notes Apple has stated “iTunes 8.2.1 provides a number of important bug fixes and addresses an issue with verification of Apple devices.”

Palm has reiterated its earlier comment where it had said “Palm’s media sync works with iTunes 8.2. If Apple chooses to disable media sync in iTunes, it will be a direct blow to their users who will be deprived of a seamless synchronization experience. However, people will have options. They can stay with the iTunes version that works to sync their music on their Pre, they can transfer the music via USB, and there are other third-party applications we can consider.”

So this could be bad news for Palm users. Experts are looking for alternate means to sync with iTunes.
