3 Idiots sweeps awards
Director Rajkumar Hirani’s film 3 Idiots swept the board at the 16th annual Star Screen Awards in Mumbai, winning as many as 10 statuettes in different categories.
R. Balki’s film Paa also bagged a few awards, with its leading man Amitabh Bachchan winning the Best Actor statuette for his moving performance as a 12-year-old kid suffering from progeria.
Interestingly, Shahid Kapoor won the Popular Choice Best actor award for his performance in Kaminey while Kareena Kapoor got the same award (female) for her role in ‘3 Idiots’.
Noted lyricist Javed Akhtar was given the Lifetime Achievement Award by Amitabh Bachchan and Yash Chopra.
Reliance Big Pictures’ scored a triple whammy at the 16th Star Screen Awards, as it bagged top honours at the award ceremony. 3 films from the Reliance Big Pictures stable, ‘Paa’, ‘3 Idiots‘ and ‘Luck By Chance’ bagged a total of 14 awards this year, in all major categories, including the “Popular Choice” category.
The year’s biggest blockbuster, ‘3 Idiots‘, won a total of 8 awards, including the Best Film of the Year, Best Director award, won by Rajkumar Hirani, and the Best Screenplay award, which Abhijat Joshi and Hirani shared. The awards for the Best Performance in a Comic Role and the Most Promising Newcomer went to Omi Vaidya, while the award for the Best Actor in a Negative Role went to Boman Irani. Kareena Kapoor won the Best Actress award in the Popular Choice category for the film, along with the film bagging the award for the Best Dialogue.
R Balki’s take on a special father-son relationship, ‘Paa’ swept the awards in the acting categories this year. The adorable kid, ‘Auro’ from the film ‘Paa’ - played by none other than Mr. Amitabh Bachchan — received the Best Actor award, along with Vidya Balan, who won the Best Actor (female) award, for her role as a beleaguered single mother. Arundhati Nag, who played Auro’s grandmother in the film, won the Best Supporting Actor (female) award, and Pratik Katare, who played the role of Vishnu, won the Best Child Artiste award for the film.
Rishi Kapoor won the Best Supporting Actor (male) award for his spot-on portrayal of a movie producer, in debutant director, Zoya Akhtar’s ‘Luck By Chance’. The film also bagged the Best Ensemble Cast award.
