Nissan to launch 9 new cars in India

Nissan is trying to make a serious dent in the Indian small car market. The company will be widening its portfolio and will be introducing nine models by 2012. Out of these new models four will be imported and five models will be built in India. The company has launched an outlet in Pune recently.

Presently two premium models being sold in India are the X-Trail and Teana. The small hatchback, Nissan Micra and the Nissan Morano are the new launches. The Micra will be manufactured at the Chennai plant. Murano will be imported in completely built kits.

The cars to be developed in India will be a sedan version and three other compact cars besides the Nissan Micra. The compact cars are likely to come in by the next year. The Nissan Micra will be marketed by August this year. These cars will be on the V platform.

Nissan has a tie up with Renault for its V platform and utilisation of the Chennai plant. The Chennai plant is known to be having a capacity of 4 lakh cars per annum.
