State owned telecom companies, the BSNL and the MTNL are taking giant strides in the 3G arena. A large number of towns and cities are already on the 3G map in the country. The Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) announced the launch of 3G in 11 cities of Himachal Pradesh.

These cities include Recong-peo the headquarters of Kinnuar district, Theog, Lafughati, Thailoghati, Bragli, Kaithnalai, Kalbag, Teel, Bailan, Kason and Gangali. Aprat. The state capital and the biggest tourist attraction of the country, Shimla, is already under 3G coverage. BSNL enhanced the coverage in the state capital and the outskirts by commissioning 16 new towers in the area.

Some of the areas covered include Auckland, Himland, Broadview hotel, Sanjauli and Chakker outskirts in Shimla and some more areas in the upper hills. The widening of the 3G coverage will not only help the tourists but also benefit the locals to a great extent. With prolonged delays in the 3G auctions private players are slowly getting left out of the race.
